Training

One of Sanabel’s core activities since its inception has been the implementation of a quality training program for microfinance practitioners which has been widely disseminated throughout the Arab region.  As part of this initiative, a number of training courses were translated and adapted to the region and a cadre of trainers were trained and certified in the delivery of a range of microfinance courses.

Sanabel’s current training and capacity building program includes the following activities:

Introduce new courses
Sanabel brings new high quality training courses to meet the diverse training needs of MFIs across the region.  In order to achieve this goal, Sanabel imports existing courses to the region.  In this case, Sanabel is responsible for the translation and adaptation of the course to the context of the region. Sanabel may also elect to develop courses if appropriate courses are not available in other markets.

Update existing course material
With rapid developments and new trends, Sanabel updates its existing training material to match these changes on a periodic basis. Additionally, these updates include examples and case studies from the Arab world as well as additional information that enrich the material and contribute to the available Arabic microfinance literature in the region. When possible, Sanabel creates basic and advanced versions of its most frequently given courses in order to better meet the needs of the industry.

Offer Training of Trainers (TOTs) courses
Sanabel places a priority on increasing its pool of qualified Arab trainers. In an effort to increase the number of trainings delivered to practitioners in the field, participants of the TOTs will be able to disseminate the course to their institution or any other institution who may be interested without Sanabel sponsorship of the training event, after being certified by Sanabel. Additionally, Sanabel is committed to offering TOTs in Arabic in effort to increase the pool of qualified, experienced trainers.

Offer Training Courses to Practitioners
While Sanabel continues to offer training courses (ToMMs) in new countries or countries with limited resources and trainers, its primary focus is to match local trainers with MFIs interested in training courses. These locally organized courses are an excellent opportunity for MFIs to attend high quality and up-to-date courses in Arabic in their own country at a reasonable cost. Sanabel has developed a database to link trainers and consultants with MFIs requiring specific training courses and technical assistance.

Establish Training Partnerships
Sanabel maintains partnerships to deliver trainings to practitioners in member countries.  Additionally Sanabel may provide transportation scholarships to assist members in countries with no training partner or local trainer attend courses in neighboring countries.

Host Peer learning programs/Discussion Groups
Sanabel is in the process of developing a peer exchange program within the region. In order to ensure that Arab microfinance practitioners are up-to-date with the latest trends in the sector, Sanabel plans on implementing regular virtual discussion groups through the Arab Microfinance Gateway.
