Building the Capacity of the Arab Microfinance Sector through Training
Recognizing the development challenges faced by Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) across the region, Sanabel’s capacity building and training program has been designed to fill the gap and meet the regional need for training courses, qualified microfinance trainers, training materials, and resources in their own business language. Sanabel’s capacity building and training program is important for MFIs to enable them to improve the quality of their services, management practices, financial performance and outreach to poor clients.
Sanabel’s capacity building and training program has four main objectives:
* Widen the pool of Arab trainers and technical assistance providers through training of trainers (TOT) courses;
* Conduct and promote training courses offered in Arabic and French at the country and sub-regional levels for practitioners and other key industry players;
* Encourage peer learning and sharing of knowledge through study tours and dialogue programs; and
* Develop and pilot the launching of an intensive regional training program.
Sanabel brings to the region for the first time quality training programs such as the CGAP Skills for Microfinance Managers Program; the International Training Center of the ILO “Making Microfinance Work” Training Program in addition to other courses developed in partnership with various organizations such as the Rockdale Foundation, ILO, and Microfinance Center (MFC) for Central and Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States.
Sanabel has established a strong network of Arab trainers certified in delivering various courses in a practical manner. Since its inception in 2003, Sanabel translated or delivered more than 10 TOTs microfinance courses creating more than 75 training opportunities for Arab trainers. It also delivered more than 30 courses for Training of Microfinance Managers (TOMMs) across the region in Financial Analysis, DQIR, Operational Rish Management, Microfin, Human Resource Management, Strategic Marketing and New Product Development. These courses delivered, in Arabic or French, provided more than 500 training opportunities for Arab practitioners.
